A window to a virtual world at the Melkweg
After the first nights of dance floor adventures at 5 Days Off, even the most hardcore ravers need to revitalise a bit. Therefore we’d like to invite all you dancers at the Melkweg to take the stairs to the second floor, enter the Theaterzaal and step into the light of the big monolith. Here you can immerse yourself in an immense ‘stroboscope’ which is emitting various colours of flickering light combined with an ambient sound composition.
What happens while staring into the light can hardly be described – everyone has a unique experience – but imagine visual patterns emerging from the depth of your own retina, the light sensitive screen in the back of your eye. Slowly your perception of space starts to change… well, it’s best if you go see for yourself.
This installation is called Citadels: Lightscape and is created by Dutch artist Matthijs Munnik. Within this serie of artworks he researched the influence of coloured and flickering light on the human perception. His project is strongly inspired by Brion Gysin and Ian Sommerville’s Dream Machine, the first artwork that realised the potential of flickering light. Lightscape is a window to a virtual world, visualizing an abstract universe composed only of light and sound.
Citadels: Lightscape is part the event Coding the Club which FIBER organised together with 5 Days Off.
The installation can be visited this evening, on Saturday, between 22:00 and 2:00. Beware: If you can’t stand flickering light or have epilepsy, don’t enter. If you can handle it: take the trip.
