Introduction talk by Dick Rijken (STEIM)
As a last minute addition to our line-up, we’re glad to announce Dick Rijken (director of STEIM and professor of Information Technology and Society) will be introducing Coded Matter(s) #2: Sound Hackers this Sunday.
Between 14:30 and 14:50 (before the performance programme starts), Dick will provide give an introductory talk about the history of STEIM and hybrid instruments. As the network society has led to a big entangled sea of atemporality and possibility in music, the role of STEIM as a laboratorium for new electronic has also changed. Dick will relate how STEIM explicitly chose to become a ‘network lab’, where the visitors could learn as much from each other as they could from the institute. He will also delve into how these things relate to the development of music in general and to the practice of creating hybrid instruments.
Everyone who wants to enter the rest of the programme with a bit more context to all the audiovisual goodness is welcome to join us for this talk. Please note that this means doors will be open at 13:45. Dick’s talk will be between 14:30 and 14:50, after which the doors will briefly re-open for those who chose not to attend this introduction.
