First names: OWOW (Pieter Jan Pieters)

This first name on the line-up for Coded Matter(s) #2: Sound Hackers is one you may have seen around recently. Pieter Jan Pieters (founder of studio OWOW) brings a design approach to Sound Hackers. His ‘Sound on Intuition’ project has been discussed and displayed all over the place, from Dutch Design Week to CNN, from the Creators Project to TEDxBrainport.

The project is an experiment using the human body as an instrument. Striving to break free from the constraints of working with the same plug-ins and software as every other producers, Pieters uses the unique human motor skills, the difference in human dance, to reintroduce a specific blend of individuality to electronic music. By using sensor-based instruments, sound is produced and controlled simply by movement of the body.
